United Way of Sumner County Claimed

United Way of Sumner County partners with more than 30 agencies who specialize in meeting the critical needs of our community.  Our focus areas include Education, Financial Stability, Health, and Rebuilding Lives.

We connect seniors and their families with a multitude of resources for a wide variety of needs. 

Under the focus area of Financial Stability, we offer the following:

1. Five Care Centers in Hendersonville, Gallatin, Portland, and Westmoreland (also serving Bethpage and Cottontown) that host food banks and offer emergency and transitional assistance with rent, utilities, household items, clothing, and prescription medications.

Under the focus area of Health, we offer the following:

1. Alzheimer’s and Aging Services that provide free consultation, education, referrals, and general information about various dementias, caregiving strategies, and help for caregivers. In-home visits are available as well as monthly caregiver support groups.
2. Three Senior Citizens’ Centers in Gallatin, Hendersonville, and Portland that provide recreational activities, exercise programs, information/referrals, volunteer opportunities, outreach services, health screening activities and information, health fairs, and community services information.
3. Longterm Care Ombudsman Program that works to protect the rights and dignity of residents in long-term care facilities through investigation and resolution of their complaints.
4. Meals on Wheels Senior Dining Program that provides nutritious lunch meals and a volunteer visit each weekday to persons 60 and above at a group site or to homebound seniors.
5. A medical center that provides health care to uninsured, working individuals and families for wholeness, wellness and healing. Services include: primary health care, diagnostic services, disease prevention, nutrition counseling and prescription assistance.  Services are provided to those who work or live in Sumner County and have no health insurance. Fees are on a sliding scale based on income and number of dependents living in the household.
6. A poison center hotline to provide assistance with medication questions and/or medication errors.

Under the focus area of Rebuilding Lives, we offer the following:

1. A domestic violence program that provides assistance to survivors of domestic and sexual violence.  Offers emergency shelter, 24/7 crisis intervention services, danger assessment, safety planning, law enforcement and court advocacy and accompaniment, help with orders of protection, supportive counseling, information and referrals, case management, therapy, and support groups.
2. Free legal advice, representation, and community education in civil legal matters to low income individuals and families, targeted towards older individuals in social and economic need. Covers a wide variety of civil legal matters, but focuses upon protecting victims of domestic violence, assistance with unfair housing and mortgage lending practices, special education and disability issues, and access to health care.

We also offer 2-1-1, a free local service, available 24/7, that provided referrals to a wide variety of resources within the community.  There are numerous ways to connect:
